Optimatics, the world-leading provider of infrastructure planning software that enables water and wastewater utilities around the globe to avoid billions of dollars in costs while ensuring optimal performance, has been selected by the California Water Services Company in San Jose, CA to assist them in their commitment to developing a risk based approach to asset management and capital planning. This unique optimal approach to capital planning will allow them to meet the requirements of both the Office of Rate Payer Advocates (ORA) and Public Utilities Commission (PUC).
Inputs to Optimizer will include a hydraulic model of the network to be assessed, hydraulic performance requirements and standards, pipe criticality, system demands and patterns, and more. The solution will assess each system in order to optimize the capital investment and operating strategy for the system to meet a variety of system scenarios which include; Fire Flow Events, Max Day Demand, and Average Day Demand.
“Optimizer will provide a framework for advanced decision support that integrates asset management data with hydraulics. The resulting analysis will provide unbiased and defensible outcomes that will significantly reduce the administrative burden for defending future rate cases and ensure the most cost effective solutions”, said Vice President, Kevin Shipp.
Optimizer, a cloud-based optimization software solution, comprehensively analyses water and wastewater systems by evaluating hundreds of thousands of asset options and capacity combinations against multiple objectives such as cost, hydraulic performance, energy, and water quality. In contrast to traditional approaches which combine best engineering judgement, trial and error and limited scenario evaluations. Optimizer automates the scenario analysis process and produces many potential combinations that meet the desired requirements. Optimizer allows planners and engineers to focus on effective results and avoid costly over-designs.
