Optimatics, the world-leading provider of infrastructure planning software that enables water and wastewater utilities around the globe to avoid billions of dollars in costs while ensuring optimal performance, has been selected by the City of Houston, Texas for use in assessing alternative infrastructure upgrades for the City’s Wastewater network.
Utilizing the Optimizer software, City staff will explore various combinations of assets aimed at alleviating wastewater overflows. The overall objective of the assessment is to reduce the volume of runoff, increase the volume of storage, move towards real-time operation of the catchments connected to the City’s largest treatment facility, and potentially eliminate the need for an additional wet weather facility.
Optimizer will be used to help identify areas where the desired hydraulic design criteria are not being met. Drawing on the deficiencies analysis, the software will allow the City of Houston to define the most cost-effective alternative improvement options for the network.
“We are excited to be working with the City of Houston to identify the best outcome for their wastewater needs while taking into consideration all variables in terms of available resources, weather events, and life-cycle costs” said Corey Williams, Optimatics President.
Optimizer, a cloud-based optimization software solution, comprehensively analyses water and wastewater systems by evaluating hundreds of thousands of asset options and capacity combinations against multiple objectives such as cost, hydraulic performance, energy, and water quality. In contrast to traditional approaches that combine best engineering judgment, trial and error, and limited scenario evaluations. Optimizer automates the scenario analysis process and produces many potential combinations that meet the desired requirements. Optimizer allows planners and engineers to focus on effective results and avoid costly over-designs.
